When we decided that the way to clean out my late Mom’s Bayside home was via an Estate Sale, we started doing research on the web and picked a number of Estate Sale companies in the area that looked promising. My wife Sue and I dedicated a weekend to doing more research by traveling all over Long Island visiting Estate and Tag sales to get a first hand look at how they conducted business. To say that most of what we saw was very disappointing would be an understatement.
We went into houses that looked like the residents had just walked out the morning of the sale. There was little or no setup of the premises or sale items, no prices on anything, and often no customers. In other houses we visited we couldn’t tell who might be a potential customer and who was staffing the sale. We left most of the houses wondering if this was really going to be the way to clean out my Mom’s house!
Then we got to the sale run by you and your Full of Surprise’s staff and it was night and day! First, we were greeted at the door by a staff member who explained what was happening and what the procedures were. As we walked the house we saw a very organized sale with prices on things, sold signs on a lot of bigger items, and customers all over the place. You had a very organized way for customers to pay for items and made sure that nothing walked out the door in someone’s pocket. As I said, it was night and day!
Very impressed, we set up a meeting with you at my Mom’s house. One on one we realized how versed you were in the estate sale business and how easy this whole thing was going to be for us. You were honest with us about the contents of the house and what the potential might be for selling various items. At that first meeting we made arrangements with you for a sale date and for clean out of the house with any items left after the sale being donated and for the house to be left broom swept. Along the way you even recommended a real estate agent in the area you’d worked with! Talk about full service!!
As we approached the sale date, you and your staff did an excellent job setting up the house and advertising the sale. On sale day, we showed up towards the end of the sale and you and your staff told us how successful it had been. After the house was buttoned up, you sat down with us and we started to go over the proceeds of the day. I hoped that we’d get enough to pay for the sale expenses and the cost of the clean out and if we had, I’d have been very satisfied. Imagine my thrill when we discovered that not only had we made enough to cover those expenses, but a substantial amount more! Combine that with the clean out that happened in just a few hours with spectacular results and Sue and I were very happy that we’d picked you and your Full of Surprises company to associate with!
You are a true professional who knows your business, is honest with clients about the potential of the sale, and who delivers exactly what you promise. I only wish there were more businesses that were run like you run Full of Surprises! In the end, there were no surprises because everything played out exactly as you told us it would!

5/17/2012 Letter of recommendation for Madeline Winn: I must tell you that if you are reading this then you are about to make the best choice.
My mother needed to move from her house of 56 years to another state to be by her children. This was not an easy decision and was very traumatic for her. My husband and I flew to NY to interview different companies that could help us with an estate sale. After many interviews and feeling very depressed, we got a name of a person that had been recommended by a friend of a relative. Feeling we had nothing to lose we contacted that person, THANK GOD it was Madeline!!!

Madeline Winn and her crew were miracle workers for us. My brother and I despaired of emptying our dad's house of 55+ years of possessions to get it ready to turn over to a new owner. From start to finish you were highly professional and knowledgeable. I think we agreed early on in what our expectations for the results of the sale should be; not too high but prepare to be pleasantly surprised at the result. In fact the result exceeded our expectations.
You kept every promise with respect to advertising and promotions. Your staff was professional and watchful over the proceedings and the accounting of the results was just what we expected, open and completely honest.
Finally, the clean-out. As promised, the house was left "Broom Clean" and suitable for turn over to the new owners. The clean-out of the basement was a major problem and your staff worked hard, and I mean hard, to remove an old and big heavy freezer and refrigerator without destroying the house in getting them out.

We know what a project it was as we took over 280 bags to the dump plus salvation army and St Vincent de Paul. I guess you are used to seeing houses like that but it just blew my mind when we walked in there for the first time. Thank you for all of your hard work. Madeline, Thanks...this is great! (I had just signed her up to receive e-mail). I'm looking forward to getting notices from you. You did a great job with the Sea Cliff sale (and WHAT a job it was!) I especially liked how dearly you treated the owner (I happened to be in the kitchen a couple of times when you were talking to him and you were so gentle)...which has nothing to do with tag sales or prices but speaks to your patience and kind heart..a factor that is so important when a sale is going on in a house where the owners are still alive. You're someone I feel I could recommend . By the way...the book I was telling you about (and I'm sure you dohn't even remember with all that was going on during the sale) is "My Brother's keeper", (about the Collier brothers) and it is riveting (and horrifying).
I'm going to make one last pass through the house tomorrow to look at the house again ;-) All of us here in SC who are involved with landmark and truly historic houses have always wanted to see what the Connor Cottage looked like inside and this sale has been THE chance! I know that I should photograph and record all of the unusual details but it would take days and i don't have the time. I just want to Thank Madeline and her staff so much for the wonderful job on the tag sale at my Mom's house. It was very difficult to leave our family home of 54 years. Aside from how sad it is, it was also overwhelming because soooo much had accumulated in the house and we didn't know where to begin. Madeline was particularly sensitive to what an emotional time this was for my Mother and offered her words of understanding and encouragement.

I am posting a commentary on full of surprizes, tag sale organizers. I have no financial interest in this co., and wish to say how pleased I am w/ them. I attend many tag sales, but find Madeline, and the ladies at Full of Surprizes to be the best in the business. Posted ads with proper directions, honest descriptions of contents, pleasant attitudes, willingness to negotiate, quality of sales, all count, and they are substantially above the competition. If you have a problem w/ these pros, then, the problem is most likely YOURSELF. The homeowners contracting, should provide a proper lunch for these hardworking ladies, they deserve it! In the Spring of 2009, I contacted Full of Surprizes to conduct an estate sale at my late mother’s home on Long Island. Since I am living in California, I entrusted Madeline Winn to run the sale for me in my absence. In addition to appraising and selling over 50 years worth of antiques, furniture, and collectibles, Madeline also negotiated on my behalf with the new buyers who had a lengthy list of items they wished to purchase from the estate. I was extremely pleased with the way Madeline handled the sale. She did a wonderful job advertising, and almost all the contents were sold in one day. I was very satisfied with the prices realized through the sale. After the sale Madeline hired a crew to do the final cleanout for me. When I flew out to walk through the house before the closing, it was completely empty. Madeline was very professional and I enjoyed working with her. I would highly recommend Madeline to anyone contemplating an estate sale.

After being in the antique and collectibles business for many years, it is a pleasure to go to a tag sale that is professionally run and staffed with the nicest people around. The directions and signs leading to the sale are terrific, and upon arrival being met by pleasant people is a plus.
The items shown on the websight are in the sale and not sold before hand, giving everyone a chance to purchase. Objects in the home are realistically priced and the staff is willing to work with you when buying in quantity.
